Four days past schedule

Oops. This blog hasn't had a very good start.

Or maybe it has. This actually relates to a chapter I read recently in Psycho-Cybernetics about success. While I won't sum it up completely, in short it discusses how we dwell on our past mistakes and often identify with them as a part of ourselves. In other words we believe that we are our mistakes. One of the points the chapter stressed was how mistakes are inevitable on the path to success.

An often used analogy in the book is a heat seating missile. It operates under the principle of negative feedback. It continually focuses on the target while checking to see if it is straying off course. If it is off course the missile's software adjusts the trajectory to get back on course.

If you really stop to think about it this is how we all achieve our goals. We need to set a definite target and use the principles of negative feedback to keep ourselves on track. We must also not get caught up in believing that we are our mistakes. EVERYONE makes mistakes and the success chapter in Psycho-Cybernetics gives many examples of this. Mistakes are an inevitable part of achieving your goals. I'm sure if we could all beat this into our heads we'd be much better off.

What am I doing?

I'm just another regular Internet era guy. Twenty four years old, almost finished my BA in EET and less than two weeks away from what I would call my first "career" job. I have several hobbies that I enjoy such as programming, muay thai, acoustic guitar and electronics. My other interests include participating in social media websites such as reddit, reading and attempting to implement various "life hacks" that I run across and generally just trying to get my life to a place where I see myself in my head. Every day I have success' and failures that I'm slowly learning from.

Like most though (I would assume) I struggle with being the person I want to be. Either I waste too much time, become demotivated, fall into old habits or just plain forget to do things. But why? Often I find it's because I don't set definite goals for myself to follow. I have some vague idea of what I want to do in my head and somehow magically expect for my efforts to produce excellent results. That's like trying to solve a math problem with half of the question!

This blog is going to be one of those definite goals. It's a place for me to take my ideas out of my mind and organize them. For just as much benefit to me as anyone else I will use this blog to discuss my opinions on motivation, frugality, life hacks, happiness and whatever else fits the bill. I will update this blog no less than once per week, even if all I have to share is how I spent the week eating out of a bathtub full of cheetos and watching re-runs of House M.D.
